The internet is full with numerous "No To Plastic" quotes. Some of which are really popular among the netizens & convey a to-the-point message. Creators are coming up with slogans such as :
*Plastics give a helping hand, but they are polluting our land!
*If you are ‘Fantastic’ then do something ‘Drastic’ to cut the ‘Plastic’
*Handle with care, plastic is everywhere
*Don’t laminate the earth!
Truth is, we practice forwarding the slogans, where we should have been actually following them practically in our day to day lives, to bring the change we desperately need!!
Some major brands have initiated strategies to reduce plastic usage drastically & contribute to the safety of the environment. Brands from Nestle, McDonald's, Parle Agro, to Amul & Flipkart have begun taking effective measures to curb the usage of plastic in their production processes so that they can achieve "Zero Plastic Waste" in the coming 5 years timeline.
Let's educate ourselves on the strategies being implemented by these brands in brief:
>Swiss food major Nestle, for instance, has incentivized consumers in Dehradun and Mussoorie by giving them a packet of Maggi for every 10 empty Maggi noodles packets.
>Amul has appointed agencies to pick up multilayer packaging (MLP) packs of ice-cream sticks that are trashed by consumers.
>Parle Agro, the maker of soft drink Frooti, said it will spend over Rs 50 crore in the next three years to implement an end-to-end PET plastic waste management program. All the recycled plastic will be channeled to textiles and other non-allied industry segments, according to the company
>Kitchenware brand Tupperware India said it will stop using single-use plastic for its product packaging, and will instead use recyclable paper-based compostable packaging material.
>Other large consumer goods companies such as HUL, PepsiCo and ITC, which use multilayer packaging, aim to use 100% of packaging that is reusable, recyclable or compostable within five to 10 years.
